Azure McCall is no stranger to jazz lovers across the globe. Whether touring Japan with legendary bassist Ray Brown along with Joe Lovano, Nicholas Payton, Kareem Rigging and Geoff Keezer; or performing with Michael Feinstein and the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra headlining with “Pops” Conductor Matt Catingub in her home state of Hawaii- she is an interpreter of jazz. She has also toured internationally with jazz legends Clark Terry, Maynard Ferguson, Tito Puente, Houston Person, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie and “Master” Henry Gibson.
Her most recent tour, performing with Grammy Winner Manny Kellough and his Jazz Celebrity All-Stars, traveled across the globe including Spain, Russia, The United Kingdom, Sweden, Japan and parts of the Caribbean. She has performed on Celebrity Cruise and Royal Caribbean cruise ships over the last few years.
While in Hawaii for over 30 years, she was honored with Jazz Album of the Year and Jazz Vocalist of the year. She also received the highest music honor, NA HOKU Award, the equivalent of a Grammy in Hawaii, twice. Her recordings include the albums Body and Soul, Harlem Nocturne, and The Gift. In addition, giving back to children has always been a priority to Azure; so she wrote and introduced a scat program in the Hawaii Public Schools entitled; BACK DOOR BEBOP; and modified the program under the name SCATAHOLIC for adults.
Azure was invited by President Barack Obama, then Democratic Candidate, in the fall of 2008 to perform at his pre-election event in Hawaii, one month before he won the election. In addition to her largely successful and celebrated career as a master jazz vocalist, Azure has appeared in various TV shows. Azure McCall’s warmth and sense of humor fuel every interpretation and sings ballads with great tenderness. She delivers the message of the song with a purity few singers can even imagine.
